Another year older

I had my birthday a couple weeks ago.  It was a lot of fun.  When there is any excuse for me to eat whatever I want, I take it...bring on the food!

A bunch of girlfriends planned a birthday dinner for me and another gal.  We went to Cheesecake Factory the night before my birthday, its one of my favorites.  Here is a picture of a few of them who came.

My birthday morning the kids joined me for a free grand slam at Denny's.  Gotta love the birthday clubs, and its was so big it fed all of us.

I had a list of things I wanted on my birthday....and no, it wasn't a list of things you would think of, it was FOOD.  Yep, I had a list of things I wanted to eat.  A friend from church makes the best sugar cookies I have ever had, she made a special one just for me.

Isn't it so cute?...not too cute to eat though, it was delish!

I didn't do a whole lot on my birthday because of a race I was competing in the next day.  I wanted to take it easy and eat and sleep well.  But Sam always makes my birthday special.  He came home with dinner, a different dish from all of my favorite restaurants.  Breadsticks and bruschetta from Olive Garden.  Horchata from a local Mexican restaurant.  Crab Rangoon from my favorite Chinese restaurant.  Red Curry from our favorite Thai restaurant.  And a cannoli from a local Italian restaurant.  So much for eating well before my race.  I was good and didn't overeat, just tasted a little of everything and then the kids and Sam sang to me and gave me presents.  Birthdays are so much fun.

I woke up the day after my birthday to go compete in the Master the Met race.  Its the fight for air climb for the American Lung Association.  You climb 42 floors of the Metropolitan building.  I thought it would be a cool event to participate in.  Thanks to a lot of family, friends and my dad's company for sponsoring me, I was able to raise enough money to be in the race.

Sam and the kids came to support me.

They sent someone up the stairwell every 9 seconds, here I am getting ready to go.  Slow racers stayed to the right and you passed on the left.

Here I am accepting my plaque that I got...believe it or not I placed.  I was so shocked.  I got 2nd place in my age group, finished in 7 minutes 50 seconds.  The best overall female finished in 6 minutes 13 seconds.

The race was harder than I thought it would be.  But it wasn't my legs that hurt, it was my lungs.  I think being inside the stairwell the air was all dry or something, but my lungs were on fire.  During the race and after my lungs just burned, and then for the rest of the day I was coughing really bad.  A lot of people dealt with the same thing, it was weird.

The kids hung out and we had a great day.

To continue the birthday celebration and makeup for not going out on Valentines, Sam took me out to The Melting Pot for dinner.  Neither of us had ever been there before.  Sam reserved a private room for us that had balloons and a treat for me, it was great.

I love this guy, he treats me like a Queen!

It was nice to be out and enjoy each others company and enjoy some wonderful food.  Thanks everyone for making my birthday so special!

Happy birthday! We actually just hosted a fondue party last night - remember the one we did with Nielsen's many moons ago and we all wanted to drink the chocolate sauce... nothing has changed! Good to hear from you.

Happy Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great time and a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of food too .. I love that that's all you wanted. Sam is great .. to get you all your favorites. What a sweetheart. You're adorable. Congrats on placing in that race. I've never heard of anything like that - of climbing stairs. That would be SO hard. You're amazing!
